Nowadays, more and more people are using digital cameras for capturing some of their most valuable moments in life. Losing any of these photos, is highly disturbing to the user.

The useful, but dangerous delete button present in digital cameras is responsible for majority of the data loss. The situation in which, a user accidentally clicks the delete button, and ends up deleting the photo file, is a common occurrence. However, there are other reasons due to which, the image files might get deleted / lost.

Other common reasons for the loss / deletion of photo files are:

Accidental formatting of the SD card that holds the image files.

SD card or hard drive corruption.

Interface, or file transfer errors.

The most common question that comes to any user’s mind, under such a situation is,“Is it possible to recover those photos which were accidentally deleted?” .

Yes!, lost or deleted digital photos can be recovered. When a file is deleted, only the file table entry of that file is deleted, and not the file as a whole. Hence, photo recovery is possible, provided you take certain precautions,

Avoid taking any more pictures with the SD card from which you want to recover the data.

Remove the SD card from your digital camera, and secure it in a safe place. This avoids further usage of the SD card, hence, increasing the chances of photo recovery.

Deletion of files is something that we regularly perform while using our PC. We sometimes end up deleting an important file. In majority of the cases, the files are deleted due to accidental deletion. The types of files that get deleted vary from text files that occupy minimum disk space, to audio or video files, that can occupy many megabytes of data.

Files that get deleted are directly sent to the Recycle Bin, from where they can be recovered, using the Restore button. There are some instances, when the files bypass the Recycle Bin. This occurs when the Recycle Bin settings are changed. There are other occasions when we empty the Recycle Bin, and end up losing all the data. Deleted data recovery software comes in handy under such situations.

Deleted data recovery is made possible, due to the fact, that when a file is deleted, only the pointers to that particular file are deleted, and not the data present in the file. This lest us recover the deleted data with ease, by using an undelete software.

REMO Recover Basic Edition software lets users recover data that have been deleted from the Recycle Bin, or files deleted using the Shift + Delete keys. The software can recover deleted data from different types of storage media like, fixed hard drives, USB drives, flash memory cards and external hard drives. The software is available for systems running on both Windows and Mac operating systems.

REMO Recover Basic Edition software can be first tried for free by the user, by downloading the Trial version of the software. Once, the user is satisfied with its working, he can go for the Full Version of the software.

REMO Recover (Windows) Basic Edition

REMO Recover (Windows) Basic Edition is designed to suit the systems running on Windows operating system. The user does not have to be technically skilled, to use the software, as the software has an easy to use interface, which guides him throughout the data recovery process. Some of the key features of the software are as given below,

The software lets you recover data of more than hundred different file formats.

The software shows the found files and folders in a tree format, and displays the deleted data files separately with a cross mark.

The software lets the user search for a particular file, from the list of found folders and files, and also helps in locating multiple occurrences of the same file, in the given data tree.

The Preview option lets the user get a fair idea of the file that has been recovered, before it is saved.

Windows operating system allows you to have more than one hard drive in a single computer. The hard drive could be either internal (attached as a salve, known as secondary hard drive) or external. All the hard drive can be accessed concurrently. The secondary or external hard drive is generally used to create backup or transfer data from primary hard drive. But in some cases, after attaching a secondary hard drive, Windows can not read primary hard drive and the hard drive partitions become inaccessible. This behavior of Windows operating system results into partition loss and needs Partition Recovery to be fixed.

After attaching a secondary hard drive to your Windows computer, the primary hard drive does not show in the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) or in My Computer. This issue might occur even if you haven’t touched the primary hard drive when you hooked up the secondary hard drive. As a corrective measure, you can try detaching secondary hard drive.

This method works in some situations and may resolve the issue. If the problem persist, connect your primary hard drive to another healthy computer, which has same version of Microsoft Windows installed. Here you might find that the hard drive is not visible in My Computer but it shows in Disk Management. The drive might show the file system as RAW and whole disk space as unallocated. In such cases, you should use CHKDSK to repair any type of damage to hard drive. If your file system is working properly and is not damaged, CKHDSK would scan entire hard drive and might resolve the issue. But in case if file system is RAW, as you seen in Disk Management, you might get the below error message while analyzing the hard drive: “No partition is bootable” After this error, if you use CHKDSK with /f option, it will indicate the disk structure is file.

This behavior of Microsoft Windows indicates that the file system is badly corrupted and your hard drive partitions can not be accessed. You should use Partition Recovery Software to get the hard drive partitions recovered in such cases. These software employ effective scanning mechanisms to methodically scan your hard drive and recover all of the lost, missing and inaccessible hard drive partitions. With read only and non destructive design, this software performs safe and original Partition Recovery.

Remo Recover Windows is an advanced and comprehensive Partition Recovery Software. This software recovers all FAT32, VFAT, NTFS and NTFS5 file system partitions. It is compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 RC1, Vista, 2003, XP and 2000.

The iPod, a premium product from Apple, has gained popularity among music enthusiasts all over the world. The very fact, that such a small and classy device can do so much, has reflected in the increased sales of the iPod over the years. The iPod is a small device with large capacity. It can store hours of songs and videos, and also large number of photos of different formats. It is available in different sizes and shapes based on the memory capacity, and features.

As the capacity of an iPod is considerably high, it is bound to face some technical glitches during its working. There is of course the damage that the iPod faces due to external factors such as damage due to mishandling, hard drive corruption, damage due to extreme weather conditions etc. In such cases, chances of data recovery are very remote, and most of the data is lost in such situations.

There are also instances, when the data loss in an iPod is purely logical. The logical data loss might be caused due to accidental deletion of data, virus attacks, software malfunction, malware etc. In most of the cases, the data loss occurs, when the device is unplugged in an improper manner from the system, resulting in complete loss of data in the iPod. In such cases, the user gets anxious, and then tries out some ‘Do it yourself’ method, to retrieve the data, which results in complete erasure of data from the hard drive of the iPod.

This can be avoided, by taking some precautionary steps, like avoiding the usage of the iPod, after data loss has taken place, avoid trying out any ‘Do it yourself’ methods, staying calm, and most importantly, getting yourself a good iPod recovery software.

In a survey from a research group, the worldwide sale projection of low-end digital cameras was 51 million units in 2007. The total worldwide sales of iPod crossed 220,000,000 units, by the third quarter of 2009 . The numbers are increasing every year, as all devices are offering latest features and capabilities, with competitive pricing.

All digital cameras, iPods and other multimedia devices, rely on storage devices like flash memory cards and micro drives for storage of photos, videos, music etc. Data loss is synonymous to these devices as these too come with a hard drive, similar to that of a PC.

Common situations faced by digital camera and iPod users (General excerpts taken to highlight problems faced by users.)

   1. I have a compact flash card for my camera, which once inserted in the camera, reads “CF card error”. When attached to a PC, it says, “disk must be formatted”. There are about 50 pictures in the card. How can I recover them?.
2. I have an external drive that I am unable to access. I need to recover digital photos that have .jpeg and .nef (Nikon) file extensions, from that external drive. Can anybody help?
3. My scan of a Sony camera memory card says that there are 105 files present on the card. But, when I save them to a folder on the hard drive, and open the folder, the folder is empty!
4. I am trying to recover pictures that were installed in Windows Photo Gallery and put in the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin was later emptied it. Can I recover these pictures?
5. I have an iPod classic, and I used my brother’s computer to update my iPod through iTunes. This however deleted all the songs in the iPod. Can I get them back?
6. Will your product recover data from an iPod, that was mistakenly “Quick Formatted”?

Most of the data loss situations faced by individuals, are similar to the scenarios stated above. Recovery of lost photos, videos and music files is definitely possible. However, you should be careful and plan the whole recovery process, if you are planning to do “on my own” stuff.

Steps involved in recovery of digital photos, videos and music files

Analyze the situation – Identify the nature of damage to the storage media.

    * If your PC does not recognize the card or the device, try to check all the PC connections, and make sure they are firmly connected. Even after that, if the card/device is not detected, plug the card/device into another PC, and try to access it.
* If both the attempts fail, then it is likely that the storage media has some physical damage. In this case, it is recommended that you seek the help of a professional data recovery services firm, to retrieve data.

If the drive is getting recognized, follow the steps mentioned below,

Precautionary measures – follow these steps, to avoid permanent loss of data Do not save or write any data on the storage device in question.

    * Do not format the drive, because some digital camera firmware are designed to erase data beyond recovery during formatting process.
* Remove the storage device, and secure it in a moisture free room at an optimum temperature, in an anti-static wrap.
* Do not be adventurous to try any freeware recovery application or, any disk management utility, as there are chances that you may overwrite the recoverable data.
* Make sure that you do not install or even download installer file to the storage media to avoid any overwriting.

The storage space on a hard drive can be separated into separated areas for better utilization of disk space, is called as partitioning. More partitions provide more control, but too many may become cumbersome. The way that space management, access permissions and directory searching are implemented depends upon the type of file system installed on a partition.

When partitions are made, you specify the total amount of storage that you would like to allocate to that partition from the total size of the drive. For example, if you have an 80 GB drive, then it would be possible to make one partition consisting of the entire 80 GB of available storage. Alternatively, you could make two partitions consisting of a 20 GB partition that will be used for the operating system and programs and a 60 GB partition, which can be set aside for data, music, and images.

When partitions are created in a hard drive, there are instances in which data loss could occur. The partition as a whole may be deleted or lost, resulting in loss of important and confidential data. This might render the data on the hard drive inaccessible. The partitions may be lost or deleted due to many reasons like accidental deletion, virus attacks, malware, corruption of file system etc. In all the above cases you can recover partition, if you are careful, and make use of a good partition recovery software.

The Macintosh is often credited with popularizing the graphical user interface. The Mac OS has been pre-installed on almost every Macintosh computer ever sold. The operating system is also sold separately at Apple retail stores, and online. Mac OS X succeeded the original Mac OS, which Apple had been using since the year 1984.

The Mac operating system makes use of two major file systems namely, HFS and HFS+ file systems. Hierarchical File System or HFS was the primary file system format used on the Macintosh Plus and later models, until Mac OS 8.1, when HFS was replaced by HFS+. HFS+ is the preferred file system on Mac OS X. It supports journaling, quotas, byte-range locking, Finder information in metadata, multiple encodings, hard and symbolic links, aliases, support for hiding file extensions on a per-file basis, etc. HFS+ uses B-Trees heavily for many of its internals.

There are various reasons for loss of files from a Mac operating system. Some of the reasons can be summarized as follows,

Accidental deletion of files, or accidental reformatting of the volumes present on the Mac machine.

Software failures and loss, due to corruption of files.

Loss of data due to virus attacks, or loss due to malware affecting the PC.

Loss of data due to system metadata structure corruption.

No matter what the reason for data loss, Mac file recovery is possible as long as you take some precautions, and make use of a good Mac data recovery software for recovering the lost / deleted files.

Data loss is one of the biggest concerns for people who create, modify or enter any type of data into a computer system. Data loss can impact anyone doing routine data entry, including businesses or individuals. Depending on the type of data loss that occurs, it may be possible to recover most, if not all, of the data using various data recovery methods. Both logical and physical data loss, form the complete structure of data loss.

There are many causes of logical data loss. These include malware, corrupt NTFS or FAT, electrostatic discharge, intermittent read/writes physical failure, deletion of critical operating system components, virus attack of data structure or operating system, software program badly written, software non compatible with operating system, deletion of partition letter, no free disk space available, employee sabotage and unexpected power surge. Some logical problems can have physical causes at their root (bad sectors, write-errors) and may still be recoverable with logical techniques and tools.

There are different methods to prevent data loss like, taking regular backups of the data on your computer, having a good antivirus protection for your system, keeping multiple copies of all your important documents, in different drives in your system. These methods are good, but under certain uncontrollable circumstances, data loss cannot be prevented. In such cases, you require a good data recovery software, to recover lost data.

How does a data recovery software recover lost data?

Data recovery in case of logical data loss is easier compared to recovery of data in case of a physical data loss. This is because, in case of logical data loss, the data is not completely erased from the hard drive, as soon as it gets lost or is deleted. Instead, only the pointers to the given file are deleted. This marks the disk space occupied by the file as free, and hence, any new data can be written onto this disk space. The success rate of lost data recovery therefore depends on how quick the user responds to the data loss scenario, and makes use of a good data recovery software, to recover the lost data.
